Inpatient vs. Outpatient Medical Coding

As you begin your journey towards becoming a medical coder, it’s critical you understand the different paths you can take.

At CareerWize, we currently offer an Outpatient Medical Coding Training Program - this option offers the best work-from-home opportunities, as well as long-term career growth. But there is another option.

Many medical coders choose to train as an inpatient coder. Meaning they work with records from hospitals and other inpatient facilities (any time you are admitted overnight, you are an inpatient). Knowing this distinction is important, because it affects the training you complete, as well as the certification exam you sit for.

Listen to CareerWize President and Co-Founder Andrea Anaya as she discusses the different paths.
