To become a medical coder you’ll be expected to complete several steps. Training, of course, experience is often required, and certification.

But what is certification? In short, this is simply sitting for a test given by a certifying institution (typically AAPC or AHIMA). You’ll complete this at the end of your initial medical coding training.
